Since 1293, Engelszell Abbey has shaped the Danube Valley: a place steeped in spirituality, craftsmanship and history. Originally founded by Cistercians, it was inhabited from 1925 onwards by Trappists, who lived here for over a century according to the principles of silence, prayer and work. Although Engelszell has not been an active Trappist monastery since 2024, the monks’ legacy lives on within its historic walls: liqueurs and beers are produced according to the original secret recipes, with care, dedication and a deep connection to monastic tradition.

The Rococo collegiate church, with its 76-metre-high tower, attracts visitors from all over Europe and invites them to experience the spirit of this special place.
