Since 1293, Engelszell Abbey has shaped the Danube Valley: a place steeped in spirituality, craftsmanship and history. Originally founded by Cistercians, it was inhabited from 1925 onwards by Trappists, who lived here for over a century according to the principles of silence, prayer and work. Although Engelszell has not been an active Trappist monastery since 2024, the monks’ legacy lives on within its historic walls: liqueurs and beers are produced according to the original secret recipes, with care, dedication and a deep connection to monastic tradition.
The Rococo collegiate church, with its 76-metre-high tower, attracts visitors from all over Europe and invites them to experience the spirit of this special place. Anyone who has ever visited the venerable monasteries in New Mexico or the historic abbeys in Quebec will particularly appreciate the blend of spirituality, craftsmanship and nature here.
The experience concludes in style at the SCHÜTZ Art Museum, an internationally renowned gallery that delights art lovers from all over the world. Here, expert guidance, exceptional collections and a stylish ambience come together. You can round off the day in a relaxed atmosphere in the museum café or museum shop.
